Beautiful as Aphrodite, wise as Athena, swifter than Hermes, and stronger than Hercules, it's a Wonder Woman Crush Wednesday!
This is no damsel in distress! Creator William Marston and his wife wanted to introduce a superhero who embodied the strength and power of women in a field of male-only characters. She was to be the answer to the lack of female role models in the comic book world.
Martson wrote of his creation,
"Not even girls want to be girls so long as our feminine archetype lacks force, strength, and power."
The answer was Wonder Woman! Princess Diana was raised among Amazons, a demigod daughter of Zeus, with high emotional intelligence alongside her kick-ass powers. And that Lasso of Truth she wields? It was based on the polygraph, a lie-detecting machine that William Martson helped invent during his career as a psychologist.
Even the women who have played Wonder Woman have been worthy Wednesday crushes! Lynda Carter brought passion and personality to the role, and newcomer Gal Gadot served in the military before becoming an actress.
All around, there are few crushes as super as Wonder Woman!
