She was fired from her teenage Winn-Dixie job for making too many (hilarious) fake announcements on the loudspeaker. This week’s woman crush Wednesday is Amy Sedaris!
Amy Sedaris was born in 1961 and started her television career in 1995 after years of performing with a comedy troupe. Her role as Jerri Blank on Strangers with Candy kept viewers laughing, but in addition to television Sedaris has written successful books and helped her brother write stage plays. Her book I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence spent 12 weeks on the New York Times bestseller list and her book Simple Times: Crafts for Poor People has a cover that can be cleverly converted into a hat.
Amy Sedaris keeps life fun and weird in a way that’s both entertaining to watch but also quite inspiring. She ran a cheese ball and cupcake business from home, even while getting consistent roles in shows and movies, and spent all the money on her pet rabbit. She hosted a craft club called The Craft Beavers with such members as Sarah Jessica Parker and designer Todd Oldham. She’s single because she wants to be and she owns it. Well, single aside from her imaginary boyfriend Ricky for whom she has invented a rich fictional backstory.
“Before you can give of yourself to others you must know what of yourself you have to give. Every person is special. In all the land there is only one you, possibly two, but seldom more than sixteen.”
